- Head-to-head: Hibs have won the last 2 head-to-head meetings, including a 2-0 home victory over St Mirren in the Premiership 2025/2026 eight months ago.
- Home record: St Mirren have failed to win any of their last 3 home games against Hibs, a nasty run for the Buddies.
Staggering St Mirren in a scary slump
Form collapse
Saint Mirren have been in a slump of staggering proportions over the past few weeks and it is difficult to make any sort of case for them heading into Wednesday's home game against Hibernian at The SMISA Stadium. The Buddies have lost five straight games, a run that started with a 0-3 home defeat to Dundee United, before they were hammered 5-0 away at Hearts and followed up with a 3-1 loss at Aberdeen last weekend.
League position and management
Staggeringly, their form has been even worse in the 2026/2027 Scottish Premiership season where they sit 8th with ten points from nine games, while Hibernian are 12th with seven from nine.
Craig McLeish took over as head coach on 12 March 2026 and his side have played with a bit more freedom under his guidance, attempting to play a more possession-based style with the ball and some of the players having licence to take the game to the opposition.
Hibs have the head-to-head edge
Hibs will certainly have the licence to press St Mirren hard on Wednesday as Marink Reedijk has taken them in a more positive direction since his appointment on 25 September 2026. His side are certainly more aggressive in their pressing and look to overload opponents in transition by getting bodies forward, so this should be a tactical battle.
McLeish's men like to build from the back and circulate the ball in a controlled fashion while Hibs will be looking to press them hard and make it a more chaotic game. That may not be a bad thing for the hosts, but Hibs are in slightly better form, having lost one of their last two away games, so we're backing the visitors to continue their head-to-head dominance with a 2-1 win this midweek.
Hibs the likelier winner
Hibs are 1.97 favorites to win in Paisley, but there's enough in the form book to show this will be a tense game and the hosts at 3.45 and the draw at 3.65 are both significantly shorter than they should be.
- Our prediction for Hibs to edge this 2-1 can be backed at 17/2, and that result is the one that most closely matches the respective performances of the two sides.
- Killian Phillips has been the main spark for St Mirren in the 2026/2027 campaign with three goals in three games, while Martin Boyle is the most dangerous Hibs player in the league this season with three in six.
- Over 2.5 goals at 1.7 and Both Teams To Score at 1.62 also look good here as both teams like to play, even if Hibs have struggled to get going this term.
