- Team form: Celtic are on a run of 2 wins and 3 defeats from their last 5 matches, but they hammered Hearts 7-1 in their last game.
- United form: Dundee United have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 5 games, including a 1-0 win over Hibernian and a 1-1 draw with St. Johnstone.
- Head-to-head: Celtic beat Dundee United 4-0 in the League Cup two months ago and haven't lost to the Tangerines in their last 2 away games.
Odds don’t reflect the gap
1.26 is a pretty tight odds on the top of the Premiership 2026/2027 Celtic to defeat 6th-placed Dundee United at Celtic Park, but it's not entirely outrageous when you look at the Tangerines' solid start to the campaign. Jim Goodwin's side have 12 points from their opening 9 games, putting them firmly in the middle of the middle of the table.
That's no disgrace for a club that is building for the future and there's no shame in the results that they've posted in their most recent 3 games – a 0-3 away win at St. Mirren, a 1-0 home win over Hibernian and a 1-1 away draw with St. Johnstone. The Tangerines have won 2, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their 5 away games in the Premiership 2026/2027, conceding 8 away goals. With that sort of defensive record, we're not tipping the visitors to keep the Bhoys out.
Bhoys are back on track
Recent results
Celtic's last 2 results have been at opposite ends of the spectrum. Martin O'Neill's men were stunned 4-1 by Benfica in the UEFA Europa League League Phase tie before bouncing back to demolish Hearts 7-1 in the premiership on Sunday. That win is probably a better indicator of where the Bhoys are at right now, but the 4 goals they scored against Hearts must have given them confidence.
Tactical outlook
O'Neill has set up his side to play a front-foot game of pressing and wide overloads, but Goodwin will have Dundee United packed in and ready to pounce when they can.
Best value is in goals
There's an obvious gulf in quality between these two sides, but the 9.3 odds on the visitors and 5.9 on the draw are much too low for our taste. So we'll go with the game wagering line to make some extra value from the hosts' attacking power.
Over 2.5 goals at 1.38 is probably the best way to play it, but Both Teams to Score at 1.73 is live enough for our fancy as United will get a few opportunities on counterattacks. Celtic should control the game and win it, but it may take a while for the net to bulge for the hosts.
- Jesse Randall is United's main threat, with the veteran striker scoring 2 goals in 7 games so far.
- Lyall Cameron has 2 of the Tangerines' last 6, while Benjamin Nygren tops Celtic's charts with 3 in 7 games in the top division.
- Camilo Duran is in fine form, however, with 3 goals in his last 5 games to give Celtic an added edge in the final third.
