- Head-to-head: Plymouth have won two of the last three meetings between the two teams and lost once.
- Recent form: Plymouth have won four of their last five matches in all competitions.
- Away form: AFC Wimbledon have won one, drawn one and lost two of their four away matches in League One 2026/2027, averaging 1.00 goals per game.
Pilgrims have the edge in a tight game
Standings and recent H2H
Plymouth play on Saturday as they sit 4th on 13 points from eight matches, two points clear of AFC Wimbledon, who are 8th on 12 points from the same amount of games.
Plymouth will be hoping to build on their slight advantage in the recent H2H record, which they have won twice and lost once in the last three encounters, the most recent of which was a 3-1 victory away from home in League One 2025/2026.
Tactical setups
In a tactical sense, Tom Cleverley's compact 4-4-2 is designed to squeeze the ball and force mistakes in the tightest parts of the field, with the Pilgrims able to punish teams on the break with some sharp verticality and counter-pressing.
Johnnie Jackson's Wimbledon set up is another matchup for Plymouth, with the Dons favouring a three-at-the-back shape, full wing-back width and an emphasis on direct transition play.
Recent form
Plymouth come into this game in good form, having won four of their last five games in all competitions, although their latest results were a 5-1 EFL Trophy smash-and-grab over Crystal Palace U21 and a 1-0 home defeat to Burton Albion in League One 2026/2027.
Wimbledon have been in mixed form of late, winning two, drawing two and losing one of their last five. They are unbeaten in three, however, following a 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers, a 0-0 draw with MK Dons and a 1-1 draw away to Cambridge United.
Pilgrims look likely to nick it
Plymouth are the clear favourites at 1.51, but I think Wimbledon's price of 5.8, and the draw at 4.2, are both far too high. The visitors have been resilient of late and this should be a close game, although the home side should have enough to win.
Over 2.5 goals at 1.62 suits the attacking angle I'm taking here, while both teams to score at 1.67 also appeals.
- Aribim Pepple is Plymouth's sharpest finisher this season, scoring three goals in eight in League One 2026/2027 and looks the best bet for an anytime scorer, while Jayden Stockley has been Wimbledon's greatest danger, scoring three in eight and having three of the Dons' last five goals.
