- Home form: Sheffield Wednesday have won two and lost none of their last two home games.
- Away form: Blackpool have won once and lost four away games in League One 2026/2027.
- Home stats: Sheffield Wednesday have scored 2.40 goals per home game and conceded 0.60 per home game in League One 2026/2027.
Two contrasting styles in a press vs possession battle
Betting outlook:
The odds suggest that this is a sure home win and, while we wouldn't bet against Sheffield Wednesday at 1.6, the 5.0 on Blackpool FC is a tad too large to ignore and we are getting behind the visitors as an exact score bet here. There are plenty of reasons to side with Wednesday, but we will get to that after discussing the obvious value in the home side.
Tactical approaches:
Henrik Pedersen has been in charge of the Owls since 31 July 2025 and his high-press, vertical style is designed to win the ball back quickly and play on the attack in waves. Ian Evatt's Blackpool FC, on the other hand, play a more possession-based, 3-at-the-back system that looks to control the pace of the game and work the ball wide to try and get on the flanks.
Recent form:
Blackpool's form has been mixed in recent weeks, winning two and losing three of their last five, including a 2-0 win at home to Milton Keynes Dons FC before a 4-1 loss at home to Mansfield Town in League One 2026/2027. Sheffield Wednesday have also had mixed results of late, but there is no denying their current slump is real after back-to-back 2-0 defeats at Notts County and Doncaster Rovers in League One 2026/2027.
The hosts are the favourites for a reason
8th-placed Sheffield Wednesday have 18 points from 11 games in League One 2026/2027, while Blackpool are 20th with just 11 points. The table suggests the hosts are the likeliest winners in this one, even with the odd setbacks, and that's what the odds reflect.
The last head-to-head was a tight, tight game between two evenly-matched sides in the EFL Cup 2024/2025. Sheffield Wednesday edged that game 1-0 away from home and, although we don't expect that to be the case on Sunday, the psychological damage from that result may still be felt by the visitors.
Blackpool’s lack of a reliable penalty box finisher
Although the away side are a dangerous side on their day, this is a game in which Sheffield Wednesday look the likelier winners.
We will side with Wednesday and both teams not to score in the 'BTTS & Result' market as the home advantage and two recent wins at Hillsborough suggest that Wednesday can make their home ground a stronghold once more.
- Jamal Lowe leads the scoring for Wednesday with four goals in seven League One 2026/2027 matches and remains their cleanest finisher, while Blackpool have Jerry Yates with two goals in five games, providing Ian Evatt's side with a reliable target in the penalty area.
- Albie Morgan has also got two goals in the last five, so he provides Blackpool with a useful late-running threat from midfield.
