Orient could be in a sticky wicket against the U’s
Cambridge United are the form team and have just about enough about them to avoid defeat at BetWright Stadium in an exciting match between two League One sides on Saturday. A win could keep Neil Harris's men in the top half of the standings, while Leyton Orient look unlikely to make the play-offs.
The U's have been flying in League One 2026/2027 and are certainly the sharper of these two clubs right now. Their last three matches have been a 0-0 draw at Bradford City, a 2-0 home win over Blackpool and a 1-0 away defeat to Reading, so the performances have swung wildly.
But in their last two in the third tier, Harris' team have shown enough grit and guile to earn a 2-1 away win at Barnsley and follow it up with a 2-2 draw at home to Wycombe. A solid base, high-press and a ability to play vertically in transition makes them a tough team to beat, even when they have been second best in the match.
Tactical clash could be a lively one
Tactical setup
Richie Wellens likes to keep his teams fresh and mobile, switching between a three-man and four-man defense according to the occasion. But this week's game should favour his preferred system with Orient keen to play forward all the time, whereas Cambridge will look to spring their runners forward in transition.
Key players and away form
- Jaze Kabia, with four goals in seven League One 2026/2027 appearances, is Orient's dangerman while Ben Knight, with three goals in eight, is the danger man for the visitors.
- His team have been superb away from home in the league, with five away days bringing two wins and three draws.
Home record
The O's have won two and lost four of their six at home in the league, so Brisbane Road has hardly been a fortress this season. They've conceded ten goals in those games so there is an opportunity for Cambridge to get something in the game.
Cambridge can get something on Saturday
The odds for this game look too tight to me with Orient 2.55, Cambridge 2.55 and the tie 3.25. A tie or the double chance on the U's appeals more to the numbers and the form just about edges it to the visitors, who have avoided defeat in their last five games.
Orient have won the last three meetings between the clubs in all current competitions and Cambridge have failed to win on either of their previous two visits to Brisbane Road.
