Wrexham are a different side to Rovers’ last visitors
Blackburn Rovers will try to maintain their decent form when they host Wrexham in the Championship 2026/2027 on Saturday and Tony Mowbray's side make plenty of appeal for the points at Ewood Park. Rovers are 10th in the table with 15 points – one more than the Red Dragons in 14th.
Mowbray was appointed as head coach on 1 July 2026 and his side have made a good start to their campaign. Mowbray has set Rovers up to play a controlled 4-2-3-1 formation in which the ball is patiently passed around to create space before the full-backs get forward and the wide players get into the box. It's a calm approach that could work well against Wrexham's vertical, physical style of play and should ensure midfield control and the duels down the flanks decide the game.
Red Devils have strong goalscoring capability
Away form and style
Wrexham have won one, drawn three and lost just one of their away games in the Championship 2026/2027, but they scored just once in the last away game, so Phil Parkinson's team will arrive in Lancashire with some resilience, but a lack of cutting edge. Parkinson has done a great job since he was appointed Wrexham head coach on 1 July 2021 and the way the Welsh club are set up, with a back three and two wing-backs, enables them to transition quickly and deliver plenty of balls into the penalty area. Rovers will have to be careful if they are to stop Wrexham's forwards from turning the game into a physical battle.
Key scorers
- Andri Gudjohnsen has been Rovers' most reliable source of goals, with three in seven Championship 2026/2027 appearances, but Oladapo Afolayan has been on a hot streak with four in the last five.
- Wrexham's best recent goalscoring form belongs to Kieffer Moore, who has three in eight, two in the last three.
Mowbray’s men can just edge it
The odds are close enough to put both teams in play for the win here, but it could be too close to call so the draw is still the play and the home edge should still just be a factor. Rovers have won none of the past two head-to-heads, with the Red Dragons winning 2-0 away in Championship 2025/2026, but we're going with a home edge win on this occasion.
Blackburn have won three and lost two at home in the Championship 2026/2027, scoring 1.80 goals per game and conceding 1.40, while Wrexham have won one, drawn three and lost one of their five away league games so far, averaging exactly one goal per game. So Rovers should just win a game that ought to feature goals at both ends, although it's likely to be a close battle.
Thus 2/1 on a home win with under 2.5 total goals looks a better alternative to the 2.58 odds for both teams that are still available.
