- Prediction: The most likely result is a New England win with goals at both ends.
- Home advantage: New England are unbeaten in the last two home head-to-heads.
- Away form: New York have won five, drawn three and lost seven away from home in MLS 2026.
New England are a tough nut to crack at home
Standings and head-to-head
New England Revolution have made a real push to make the playoffs in the MLS 2026 season, currently sitting 4th with 52 points from 30 games, while New York Red Bulls are having a worse season – 17th with 39 points from 31 matches. The last five head-to-heads are a little in favour of RBNY (New England won two, New York won three) and it is hard to find a draw between these two clubs in 2026 (no draws in the head-to-heads this season), so this looks like a game that should be won by the home team.
Recent form and managers
New England Revolution have won three and lost two of their last five matches and their last three results are a 0-3 home defeat to Seattle Sounders FC, a 2-3 away win over FC Cincinnati and a 1-0 home win against Chicago Fire FC. Since taking over as manager on 7 November 2025, Marko Mitrovic has turned the Revs into a fluid, attack-first unit that can sit in a compact block when they need to.
New York Red Bulls have won two and lost three of their last five games with their most recent three results being a 2-1 away defeat to DC United, a 0-2 home loss to Toronto FC and a 2-0 home victory against Inter Miami CF. New York have had the same manager, Michael Bradley, since 1 January 2026 and they have tried to retain the high-press style of play that they have been associated with for years, although the ball-playing side has definitely improved.
Carles Gil to make the difference
Defense and away threat
New England have conceded only 16 goals at home in the MLS 2026 campaign, an average of 1.07 per game, so this will be a frustrating game for a New York side that like to put pressure on opponents at the back. New York can score on the road, however, with 17 away goals in 15 matches, so they should be able to keep this game open and in it.
Key attackers
- Carles Gil has been the most effective finisher for New England in the MLS 2026 with 12 goals from 27 appearances and his quality between the lines can make the hosts very dangerous if they can get the tempo of the game right and choose the right moment to strike.
- Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has scored two goals in his last five appearances for New York, so he is a timely boost for the visitors and Julian Hall's 10 goals from 25 matches in the MLS 2026 make him RBNY's biggest threat.
Betting perspective
The odds for a New England home win look very good at 1.84, over 2.5 goals seems a little pricey at 1.4 and BTTS is a skinny price at 1.38, so I am going with the home victory and both teams to score. New England like a patient, narrow build-up game, which can drag opponents into tight spaces and open lanes late. If they get past New York's initial wave of pressing, this could turn ugly for RBNY.
